McClintock park has always been a popular spot to play on the playground, tennis courts, or skate on the ramps. This summer, the City of Laingsburg started its construction project to include an amphitheater in the park.

The new amphitheater will create a setting where many more people will be able to use the park. Spirit Expressions Dance Family will be able to dance for the SpringTime Festival on a stage instead of the street and the bands that come and play for Movie in the Park will have a stage to play on as well.

“This project has been on the radar since 2005 when we were developing the plans for McClintock Park,” Clerk and Treasurer, Paula Willoughby said.

Now in the third phase of the project, the city hopes that the new renovations will attract more people to Laingsburg. Another goal is to guide more people to attract and influence support for local businesses.

“The city had Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) fund through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and after, the city will have to pay approximately one hundred thousand dollars towards the construction,” Willoughby said.

Due to COVID-19, the construction has been set behind schedule, but the city had a groundbreaking ceremony on August 10 and is hoping to get the construction done by the end of October.
