A Villanelle as Well

A Poem by Ellie Thelen

Ellie Thelen

Light of day or dark of night, the ocean waves still roll

A meager life has come to be among the stars

but the earth still turns and carries on its weary soul

The life grows tall and takes upon a whole

Skips, and leaps through gentle skies afar

In light of day or dark of night, the ocean waves still roll

Living a swirl of dance then stroll

The life devotes its hours to risky fun and charm

The earth still turns and carries on its weary soul

The seasoned being now grasps its certain dole

Laughs and smiles it needs not dwell on deepened scars

Light of day or dark of night, the ocean waves still roll

Aged and full the life succumbs to deaths sweet lull

Its time in space left shapes among the stars

The earth still turns and carries on its weary soul

Decayed and past now payed its hefty toll

The life lives not, its time now lost from yarn

Light of day or dark of night, the ocean waves still roll

as the earth still turns and carries on its weary soul
