For our final edition of our newspaper we want to do a section that highlights the senior athletes who did not get a chance to participate in their final season.

Softball

Ellie Thelen

 What is your favorite spring sport memory?

One of my favorite memories from softball was when Michelle Hannah hit me in the head with a softball during a game and literally the whole field, parents and all, thought I had passed out, but it ended up totally fine and everybody just laughed about it.

How many years have you played your spring sport?

  I’ve played softball for at least 12 years.

Are you playing at the college level? If so, where?

I’m planning on joining a campus/club team at GVSU but am not on the official collegiate team.

What positions do you play?

I play second base and catcher.

 

Baseball

Samuel Marshall

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

One time when I was pitching, some kid hit a fly ball on the first baseline and I ran over to try to catch it. It should have been easy, but it bounced out of my glove and I tried to catch it with my hand. Then I started bobbling it between my glove, hand and chest for a solid 5 seconds and I was freaking out.

How many years have you played?

I’ve played for 13 years.

Are you playing at the college level?

No I am not.

What positions do you play?

I play pitcher, third base, and left outfield.

 

Caleb Morr

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite memory is when we won districts.

How many years have you played?

I have played for 14 years.

Are you playing at the college level?

No I am not.

What positions do you play?

I play first base.

 

Mitchell Morrill

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite spring sports memory is when varsity won districts my sophomore year.

How many years have you played?

I have been playing baseball since elementary school and all throughout high school.

What position do you play?

I play in the outfield.

 

Connor Thomas

What is your favorite spring sports memory?

My favorite spring sports memory is winning districts in baseball my sophomore year.

How many years have you played?

I have been playing since t-ball

Are you playing at the college level?

I’m not playing at the college level.

What position do you play?

I have played outfield my whole career.

 

Track and Field

Kindi Dietz

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite spring sport’s memory would be hanging out with friends at the late night track meets and throwing discus.

How many years have you played?

I have done track for three years.

Are you playing at the college level? 

I am not playing a college sport.

What events do you play?

My events for track and field are the 800, 4×800, 1600, and discus.

 

Brady Hawks

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite spring sports memory probably has to be my very first meet. The weather was horrible, it was pouring rain with wind blowing straight sideways. I had so much fun being huddled together with my teammates, and getting to compete with them during all that was like nothing else.

How many years have you played?

I have ran track for the past 6 years, ever since middle school.

Are you playing at the college level?

I will be continuing my running career at Purdue University, competing stars the BIG 10 level.

What events do you play?

Hurdles, high jump, pole vault, sprints.

 

Jarrod King

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite memory is making it to finals in regionals.

How many years have you played?

I have played all four years of high school.

 

Ethan Klumpp

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

Unfortunately, I find that I am unable to pick just one happy memory as they were all good but I will keep the memories of my teammates and the friends that I made.

How many years have you played?

This would have been my third year if I was allowed to play.

Are you playing at the college level?

I will not be participating in track in my college career.

What events did you play?

In track I competed in the 800 meter, 400 meter, long jump and discus.

 

Savannah Olmstead

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite spring sports memory is not really just one time, it was having Marta by my side last season and just getting closer with her.

How many years have you played?

I’ve been in my spring sport for 2-3 years.

Are you playing at the college level?

I am not playing in college.

What events did you play?

This year I was going to run the 400, do shot put, and long jump.

Soccer

 

Mariah Byrnes

What is your favorite spring sport memory?

My favorite soccer memory is  when our team won the Swan Valley Invitational in 2019 but I have lots of others!

How many years have you played?

I have been playing soccer for 14 years.

Are you playing at the college level?

I am not playing at the college level but I plan to play in a recreational league after high school.

What positions did you play?

My position in soccer is usually attacking midfielder or striker.

 

Myia Danek

What is your favorite spring sports memory?

My favorite spring sport memory was winning the Swan Valley Tournament last year. It was our first title we had won together and we worked super hard all season leading up to it.

How many years have you played?

I’ve played soccer for nearly 13 years and played school soccer all through high school.

Are you playing at the college level?

I am going to Oakland University to play.

What positions did you play?

I’m a goalkeeper.

 

Claire Elfring

What is your favorite spring sports memory?

My favorite memory is winning states.

How many years have you played?

I have played 12 years.

Are you playing at the college level?

Yes but for hockey

What positions did you play?

I played forward and midfield.
